2019 ABVTA Wage and Benefit Survey Results Now Available

In 2018 the ABVTA launched its 1st Job Retention and Wage survey to members. This was a huge success and provided an abundance of useful information gathered from over 1100 responses, which at that time was approximately 75% of ABVTA registered members.

The survey also outlined areas of complex challenges Alberta RVTs face which impacts staffing and retention in the workplace and profession. Particularly, the subject of general compensation and benefits showed a need for further investigation.

In order to respond to this need for further investigation, the ABVTA launched a follow up Wage and Benefit survey in 2019 to obtain a snapshot of current RVT wages and benefit packages across Alberta. The survey received 665 responses. The responses provided in this survey were used to develop and revise the current ABVTA strategic plan, which now includes the priority area of ‘professional growth and support’ with a focus on wellness, compensation and sustainability.

In general, across the industry sectors and years of experience, the average wage for RVTs in Alberta was $24.80 in 2019. However, significant differences in wages, benefits packages, and other compensation perks are evident across the sectors, location, and experience level. For this reason, we invite you to take a look at a summary of the report presented here showing some of the data we have found to be of most interest.

A huge thank you to all the members who participated in the survey. This information is imperative to all of our profession in order to further elevate and enhance RVT employment and retention.

As a reminder, the ABVTA does not set these wages or enforce compensation packages for RVTs. This data is a snapshot of what our members have reported as happening across Alberta. Please consider using this information and other tools provided by the ABVTA to assist in self-advocacy and professional advancement.
